IMPERIAL ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF A YOUNG SATYR

A charming early Imperial Roman marble head of a young Satyr wearing a wreath of ivy and fruit, the fillet tied at the back and draped about the neck, joined as a necklace with a central flower.
Minimal repairs and restorations.

Head, exclusive of base, 14.5 cm (5 11/16") As mounted in the late 19th to early 20th Century on a Carrara marble socle, 20 x 11.4 cm (7 7/8 x 4 1⁄2")
Ex: French or Italian private collection by the late 19th to early 20th Century.Thence by inheritance to Sylvie Moriceau, Orange, France, from her grandparents. Thence another private French collection, acquired from Mme. Moriceau in the 1980s. United Kingdom export license.
